Historic Hammams in Istanbul
Istanbul is famous for its historic hammams, and many hammams from the Ottoman Empire period are still in use today. - Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hammam: One of Istanbul’s most famous hammams, Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hammam, was built by Mimar Sinan. The hammam is one of the best examples of Mimar Sinan’s mastery of Ottoman hammam architecture. Located near the Hagia Sophia Museum, the hammam attracts tourists with its historical atmosphere and unique architecture.
The hammam was built for Sultan Suleiman’s wife, Hurrem Sultan, and opened in 1556. Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hammam, one of the most beautiful examples of traditional Turkish hammam architecture, is frequently visited by tourists. The hammam also offers various massage and spa services.
- Cemberlitas Hammam: One of Istanbul’s oldest hammams, Cemberlitas Hammam, was built in 1584 by Kanuni Sultan Suleiman’s son-in-law.
